Red Bloom Photography
let's get to know each other
Hi!! I'm Monica!
I'm a Boudoir & Couples Photographer located in the Calgary area. I specialize in self love boudoir sessions, elopements, couples sessions and lifestyle newborns! This website is dedicated to the boudoir side of my business. But you can see the rest of my work by clicking the button below! I have been a photographer for 15 years and I really do love my job...this is my dream job!! I can not imagine doing anything else!
Get to know me! My favorite things!
My husband & biggest supporter
Of course he is my favorite! 19 years together and 16 years married! I moved across the world to be with him just 10 weeks after we met and then we settled in Canada a year later! He has always supported me in this career and always has been there when I have meltdowns or milestones! He is my biggest fan!
My fur babies/my besties
Yes they are my besties ha ha! Sammy and Boomer are my editing buddies who sit under my desk or close to me all day on editing days! They would hang out at every shoot if they could but life gets a bit more crazy with two dogs so they are tucked away during sessions! Sammy is ball and food obsessed and Boomer is all about people and cuddles! They are opposites in almost every way!
Sneakers & comfy clothes
Sneakers over everything! Nike, Reebok, New Balance! Gimme them all and pair them with lululemon and a tee! Casual is my style 100%! I shoot in leggings and you will see why! I am on the floor or on furniture and demoing poses so comfort is first!
Donuts...YES PLEASE! Always
I consider myself an amateur donut connoisseur! I have tried almost every local place and I try to go to places when travelling as well! This is tricky with a bit of a gluten intolerance but worth it for sweet goodness ha ha!
Jelly filled is my favorite and Doughtnut Party and Jelly Modern are my go to places!
Romance books & nights in
I am a romance addict in all ways! I love photographing love and connections, I love romance books, love mushy romance music and romcoms will forever have my heart especially the good ones like Sweet Home Alabama! I am a home body...early bed time, early riser!! And I love it!
Camping & travelling
I have mostly traded in my passport and trips abroad for camping adventures close to home! The travel bug is always there but now we book up our vacation time to camp in Alberta or BC! Taking the pups along for hikes, beach days and sometimes rainy days just sitting under the awning and reading!
About my photography journey!
Photography kinda just happened to me! I did not have a passion for photography or plans to be a photographer. I went to University to be a teacher and I was a teacher briefly in the UK when I moved there to be with my boyfriend (now husband). When we were planning our 2008 wedding I fell in love with wedding photography and it just kinda hit me...this is what I was meant to do! I bought my first DSLR camera with gift money we received for our wedding and I started photographing friends for free to learn and grow. I dabbled a bit in everything but I quickly that wedding photography was without a doubt what I loved and where I wanted to be with my business! I started officially capturing weddings in 2010. Boudoir came a few years later when my brides and friends were asking me to do their sessions! I thought sure I will try it. For the first couple years I just photographed a few sessions and then in 2016 I moved into my current studio space and I started to really find my style and my place in the industry and this is when I officially considered myself a wedding & boudoir photographer. In 2020 there was a shift that I did not see coming! When 80% of my weddings had to cancel or postpone their date I thought I would be basically a stay at home dog more for a bit until wedding life was back to normal, but instead there was a boom in my boudoir business! People were at home, not travelling and I found this side of my business busier then ever and I was happier then ever! I loved the shift from weekends shooting weddings all over Alberta and even BC to staying at home in my space with clients chatting and shooting! And then in 2022 I officially (kinda) retired from wedding photography and moved my focus to boudoir! So now I focus my energy and my business on boudoir, elopements, couples photography & lifestyle newborns! And it is pretty fantastic!
